Dental Treatment and The ER

More and more Americans are turning to the emergency room for routine dental problems. This type of preventive care offers far fewer treatment options than a dentist’s office and can cost ten times the amount a regular visit may cost. Most of those emergency visits involve trouble such as toothaches that could have been avoided with regular checkups but went untreated.

Post-Emergency-RoomIn Florida alone, there were more than 115,000 ER dental visits in 2010, resulting in more than $88 million in charges. Many ER dental visits involve the same patients seeking additional care. But ERs aren’t usually staffed with dentists and can usually only offer pain relief and medicine for infected gums but not much more.

Gentle Dental wants to help in you avoiding throwing money down the drain by using the emergency room as your dental care provider. At Gentle Dental we accept a large variety of dental insurances and for those without dental insurance have a special VIP discount program. In addition we have online deeply discounted offer coupons for new adult and child patients.

Don’t let Dental Care go untreated! Make an appointment today with one of our 24 South Florida locations by calling 1-888-513-7436.

Toothpaste Spotlight – Colgate

Colgate, one of the most popular names in oral care around the world carries over 30 different types of toothpaste. All of the toothpastes under the Colgate brand are FDA-approved and recommended by the American Dental Association.

Colgate Total Advanced is a range of nine different types of toothpaste, all approved by the FDA to fight plaque and gingivitis. Each provides 12-hour protection against plaque and gingivitis. It also fights these oral problems if you already have them. Colgate Total Advanced is also formulated to fight tartar buildup and halitosis (bad breath).  Some of the most popular Colgate Total Advanced products  includes, Total Whitening Gel, Total Advanced Whitening Paste and Total Advanced Clean. Colgate
Colgate Total offers much the same types of benefits as Colgate Total Advanced, including 12-hour protection, and prevention of plaque, tartar and gingivitis. The toothpastes in the Colgate Total line include Colgate Total Clean Mint Paste; Colgate Total Whitening Paste, which helps to remove surface stains and also whitens the teeth.
If you suffer from dentin hypersensitivity, or tooth pain then you may want to look into these two types of Colgate toothpaste. Colgate Sensitive Whitening reduces sensitivity, removes stains, freshens breath and protects against cavities. Colgate Sensitive Enamel Protect offers the same benefits as Colgate Sensitive Whitening minus the stain removal option. Relief comes within two weeks of using either type.

If surface stains caused by substances such as coffee and tea is a problem you have you should take a look at Colgate Visible White. This type of paste fights these stains and helps to protect against the formation of new ones. It contains sodium fluoride and phosphate to protect against cavities and tartar.
Colgate 2 in 1 offers the uniqueness of having toothpaste and mouthwash in one liquid gel. When using the gel it foams in the mouth. This foam is intended to reach in between each tooth to eliminate bacteria and germs that cause halitosis.
Colgate’s, parent company has been around for over 200 years so it is a sure bet that it is an established and safe brand of toothpaste to use on you and your families teeth. What Exactly Are Wisdom Teeth?

Posted on:

A wisdom tooth, in humans, is any of the usually four third molars. They usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25. Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but it is possible to have more, in which case they are called supernumerary teeth. Wisdom teeth commonly affect other teeth as they develop, becoming impacted or “coming in sideways.” That usually means extraction, which doesn’t sit well with patients as it often takes a few weeks to completely recover from. About 35% of the population do not develop wisdom teeth at all.

But have you ever wondered why they call them “Wisdom Teeth”? Third molars have been referred to “wisdom teeth” since the nineteenth century.  Since these third molars generally appear much later than other teeth, usually between the ages of 17 and 25 when a person reaches adulthood they are “wiser” than when other teeth have erupted. Wisdom Teeth

Science has added some credence to the idea that the third molar does indeed erupt when a person is “wiser”. Recent research has shown the brain continues to grow and develop right on through adolescence: in fact, most researchers believe the brain does not reach full maturity until the age of 25.

Gentle Dental has a team of dedicated Oral Surgeons that remove wisdom teeth on a regular basis. With state-of-the-art surgical facilities  Gentle Dental offices provide wisdom teeth removal without the need to refer you to an outside facility or hospital thereby saving you valuable time and expense!
